P&O Cruise Liner Britannia

Client: P&O
Product: Jesmonite AC100

HIGH VOLUME CASTING

Greenacre Studios was commissioned by Tempest Radford Ltd. to produce nearly 6,000 pieces of bespoke wall art for P&O’s luxury cruise liner, Britannia.

Each cabin on the Britannia now features a triptych of cast Jesmonite panels, and large relief-style art panels are featured in the Sindhu Restaurant. The panels in the Horizon Buffet Restaurant are designed to mimic the origami paper boats which were a pre-existing motif in the décor.

We moulded panels by award-winning artist Regina Heinz who is celebrated for use of unique forms and vibrant glazes. Alongside these fantastic pieces, the scale of the project called for further variety and so additional masters were designed, hand-sculpted and created digitally.

The original concept for the cabin artwork had been ceramic, but due to concerns about cost, speed of manufacture, and weight, AC100 was chosen to mimic the ceramic finish of Heinz’s originals. In this material we were able to create intricate, durable panels that met both the design and technical requirements without compromising aesthetic quality.

Tom Tempest Radford, Curator at Tempest Radford Limited, noted the Jesmonite solution was ideal for meeting strict fire ratings and weight restrictions, stating that it would be a "game changer" for both the cruise and hotel industries.

We are proud to have been involved in such a prestigious project, and it was a wonderful opportunity to develop and now showcase our skills manufacturing large-scale, highly detailed decorative elements aboard one of the most elegant ships in the Cunard fleet.
