What is Jesmonite?

Jesmonite is the ultimate ecofriendly, advanced composite chameleon.

Durable, strong, safe and beautiful!

Reassuringly tested to industry standards and pushing creative boundaries.

Two Parts

All Jesmonite composite materials begin as two parts:

Dry base- A reactive powder

Liquids- A water based, solvent-free acrylic resin

These parts activate when mixed and once set hold a solid and opaque final form.

The Jesmonite Range

The Jesmonite product range consists of several carefully formulated variations developed around this basic recipe.

Each product has been further specialised for use in specific applications, for example indoor vs. outdoor use, or to simulate materials such as stone, marble, even cast metal!

Across the Jesmonite range the materials behave slightly differently. The mix ratios, colour and consistency, workability, physicality, drying time, and finishing options all vary.

This is where the expertise comes in, and our team’s combined experience and in-depth understanding of the material allows us to choose the right product and tailor our working methods to best suit each new project that comes into our studio.

Our regular ‘go to’ Jesmonite products…

Jesmonite AC 100

This is the original Jesmonite product, developed 40 years ago as an alternative to fibrous plaster or GRG. AC100 is an excellent laminating material that can be substituted for glass reinforced polymer (GRP), commonly known as fibreglass, in dry conditions.

AC100 is acrylic-modified gypsum composite, without any additional aggregates. Its smooth consistency makes it perfect to achieve flawlessly sleek minimalist designs, create ultra-fine details or perfectly mimic surface textures. AC100 is highly versatile and a fantastic material for exploring and pushing boundaries.

The liquids have high acrylic solids and can be mixed with a large percentage of pigment, allowing us to create designs in bold and vivid colours, as well as more muted colour schemes. It is also possible to create unique blends by adding in other materials (coloured sands, glass, terrazzo chips, recycled materials, metal fillers or mica for example).

AC100 is the fastest-drying material, so it allows for building layers and a quicker turnaround on a project than the other materials, with fewer moulds.

However, AC100 is designed for internal applications, and so not recommended for outdoor use, and is also not suitable for acid etching.

Jesmonite AC730

AC730 is a cement-based, acrylic-modified composite. Once glass fibre is added, it becomes a hybrid Glass Reinforced Concrete (GRC). AC730 is also an excellent laminating material that can be substituted for glass reinforced polymer (GRP), commonly known as fibreglass.

AC730 was originally created to replicate stone, and the Base products contain fine decorative aggregates and powder pigments, carefully controlled to give consistent decorative surface finishes. Jesmonite stocks a variety of these pre-mixed base blends.

The standard mixes can be further adjusted to create very specific and unique effects, such as matching the colour and look of a specific type of stone. Cured AC730 can be acid-etched or sand-blasted to reveal the aggregate within.

AC730 sets far quicker than standard cements and has been developed for use in both internal and external applications. It is very durable in all conditions of external weathering and can be sealed if required.

We use it to create both solid casts and lightweight laminated forms.

Flex Metal Gel Coats

This unique and exciting material is the first and only water based metallic gel coat system.

The Flex Metal Gel Coat Bases are formulated using real metal powder to create the ultimate replication of metal in moulded materials. There are four available metal colour options- Bronze, Silver-Bronze, Copper and Brass. These can be pigmented and blended together to create a range of shades.

The high metal content means that it will also oxidise and react like real metal if a patina is applied.

Flex metal is cement based and has passed the Accelerated Weathering Test in accordance with ETAG 034 and TS EN 77-22 and is therefore suitable for both indoor and outdoor applications.
